it's the home stretch! sort of

Okay so midterm week so far looks like it's going to be a shithole.  Honestly these courses are so freaking impossible. The math involved is only doable if you're a god, and these concepts are AHHHHH. Totally bumming me out. One more failed course and I've got to stay back a whole year to finish this glorious program.  It's funny because the 2 hardest courses I'm taking at the moment are heavily based off of a course I took last term. A COURSE THAT I FAILED. Oh well.

I try my best not to feel deppressed at all. I feel like depression is the easy way out.  Depression is for people who have a compulsive need for attention and can't handle real life. At least that's what I tell myself because being depressed does nothing for anyone but it's been reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally tough these last few weeks. Sophia working in Seattle for the term. Seems like we miss each other all the time due to time and schedule differences.

I feel like a potato that's old and squishy and rotten. What happened to the good ol days?

ughh

Sooooo there's this course us university of waterloo people have to take called PDEng during our coop terms and I recently took PDEng 55, the last course of the PDEng series and what a relief! Or so I thought DUNDUNDUN

So uuuuuuusually I don't do so well during the duration of the course and have to go to the workshop that's offered after the coop term to pass the course.  Anyways I found out that I failed the course, which friggin SUCKS. Means I have to take it again during the next coop term, the coop term which I was supposed to have freeeee from PDEng but oh well.  Man I have so many failed courses under my belt at UW, this is not good.  So far school is SUCKING sooooo much I can't stand it. I can't believe I have to be at school AGAIN in the summer, 2 straight school terms in a row what a nightmare.

just.. yeah. damn weather.

Sophia called me a pussy because I couldn't finish the whole thing. It hurt a bit on the inside, I'll admit that. But it was tasty.

Working harder because I'm not as smart.

Back in school, new term, new year, new place everything. woopidy doo.

Maybe it's the weather or something but I've started to notice that everything is starting to suck more. People are getting depressed, school is dumb, food I used to like is now making me sick. ahhhhhhhhhhhh.  On another note, I've been working extra super duperly hard so far in school. I'm going to almost all of my lectures, albeit those days I couldn't get out of bed for the life of me. I'm paying attention to all my lectures, keeping up to date with course material, and actually getting work done like a week before it's due (the hell?).  Honestly this is really friggin tiring.  How the hell can people keep this up. IT'S ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS AND IT FEELS LIKE FOREVER.  Going to the library everyday after class to review what I learned, then cooking food at home. Leaves so little time to slack off.

As I write this, I'm sitting at the library.  I actually went to the library on a friday to catch up on lectures for my distance ed course that i've been neglecting. Who knew being a good student sucked so much. On the plus side tomorrow I plan on cooking myself a big fat steak which I am thoroughly excited for. STEAK STEAK STEAK STEAK STEAK STEAK STEAK STEAK MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Yesterday I had a discussion with someone on how food was the best thing in the world.  I told her to name 1 thing better than food, and we concluded that it was not possible.  I honestly can't think of 1 thing better than food.  Eating is the single thing I can look forward to everyday of my life (unless i was literally forced to eat something nasty, like poo.)

Normally in a blog post like this where I've been away for so long I'd write about some crap about how I've changed my outlook on life, how I've become different as a person and I want to do this and that differently but nope. I don't really see a lot of changes in my behaviour of thought patterns anymore, how boring.  I'm only working harder this school term due to pure fear of failing out of engineering. I've got 2 failed courses queued up, which is the maximum. If I fail another course I won't be able to move on until I clear them.

There is nothing i can think of to talk about, but it's nice to ramble even if nobody reads this. Uhh. Today I'm wearing a pair of jeans with a green sweater on top of a white dress shirt that has a blocky-lined-pattern. I had a coffee and now I need to pee.

I can't find my keys right now and all but 1 of my roomates have gone home (toronto). And I have no idea where he is.. Should have gotten his phone # beforehand.

And the lesson is, never try.

Just wrote a midterm exam for my microprocessors course. WOW there are very few midterms where I can clearly say that I have failed it.

The only consolidation is that I failed along with everyone else. COMMON BELL CURVE. After a quick bagel and muffin I'm back in the library studying again for the next midterm. I hate this program so much.

way too tired.

Sitting in a library, waiting for my class to start. I've already been very productive by actually reading relevant material, contrary to my regular activiies.  I have no idea why I'm so tired everyday. Arrived at the lab around 9:15am to work on something and got a coffee around 11:00am. Now I'm yawning like non-stop. There I yawned just now.

Also has anyone seen that show on Spike called Deadliest Warrior? It's basically taking 2 random 'warriors', who have never fought eachother before, taking test results from different weapons (hitting dummies, looking at impact damage etc) and using some computer program to compute which warrior is more deadly.  Being a geeky computer guy, the only aspect of the show that I find very dodgy is the computer software. HOW DOES IT WORK?! The guy supposedly inputs all these parameters that he gets when they smash and cut up the test dummies and this software somehow simulates 1000 battles and the winner is determined by whoever wins the most. HOWWWWWWW?!

Buuut the episode I watched was US special forces vs. Russian special forces, and that means GUNS GUNS GUNS GUNS! I don't know what it is about me, or if it's part of my male anatomy but I have this strange passion for guns. I don't know where it originates but it's a dream of mine to one day fire a bunch of different guns at targets.  Too many video games, violent tv shows and movies, who knows.  But I serioualy friggin love guns for some reason. When I see a gun or something about a gun I find it genuinly interesting. WHY?!

So enough about guns. I've recovered from my slight food poisoning with the help of lots of sleep and some medicine. Now I have no more excuses to skip class and is why I'm in the library waiting.

I've been swimming at least once a week since school has started. Aiming for a consistent twice a week basis. Sophia comes along as well. Good for her! Especially for someone who hasn't exercised in god knows how long. Not saying she's fat. Or in need of exercise. Or too skinny. Or unattractive.......GEORGE THE MANATEE. GEOOOOOOOOORGE <3

Time to get another coffee.

ALSO, I think sugar in coffee is the nastiest shit ever.

Written a week ago but forgot to post

Last day of work is starting to creep up on me.  I can't wait to leave this job. But at the same time I'm dreading going back to school. I can't stand studying, working on projects, lectures or anything.  With high hopes I intend to return back to AMD, and possibly to another department.  Unfortunately, HR at AMD is full of incompetent individuals so I'll probably have to go around meeting managers and giving them my resume personally (even though HR claimed they would do this for us).  To be honest I don't think I'll be able to find a new job this summer, especially with these conditions and some statistics my coop coordinator gave me.  I'll really have to see how it goes.

Secondly, I AM DREADING THE FUCKING WORK TERM REPORT. SAVE ME. I think I'm going to do a self-study this term, NEED A TOPIC STILL *headdesk*

Played Cranium for the first time a few days ago, pretty fun game I must say. Didn't do too bad for a first timer.  There are so many tempting things these days, especially now that I actually have my own money to spend.  Such things include PS3, PSP, DS, laptops, monitors, and clothing.  Mostly things that I don't need in particular, but would be nice to have.  Actually I was shopping with Sophia at Yorkdale and we saw a rreally nice jacket at Banana Republic. It fit me so perfectly, and I was only trying it on for fun because shit's too expensive to shop from there.  We happened to have a 30% off coupon for Banana Republic but even with 30% off the jacket still would have come to over $220.  Ended up getting a sweater for Sophia from Aritzia and a coat for myself from Guess.

It's just one of those weeks where you think to yourself "Man I need a break from life."

Monsters vs. Alients in 3D!!

Eventful day today (Saturday).  Sleep escapes me at the moment so I decided I should do an update. Went to the doctor this morning to check out the ear.  I've somehow gotten cauliflower ear, no idea how. I swear I haven't been in any fights recently.  Came home and did a bit of gaming, the best escape ever.  Sophia came over and we went out to eat at Gal's Sushi. I highly recommend this place to everyone in the Markham area.  It's right by Warden and Town Centre Blvd.  In that area with all the apartment complexes. If you're said intersection, the restaurant is on the South-East corner in that area.  The Bibim bap is particularly good in my opinion.

Drove to Vaughn mills and got some Ben & Jerry's icecream.  That ice cream is so good I can't believe there are so few of these stores in this area.  Went to Colossus to watch Monsters vs Aliens in 3D.  It was an amazing movie by Dreamworks.  It was very entertaining from start to finish with hilarious characters.  Although I'd definitely classify this movie as a children's movie, I suggest everyone should go see it anyways because it's so funny.

I got my guitar strings changed 2 weeks ago. Still trying to break them in. The sound is different, probably because the strings are a bit thinner than my last set.

Today my dad went to a mini-high school reunion at someone's house.  But keep in mind that my father went to high school in TRINIDAD.  So for him to have a high school reunion is friggin ridiculous. I'm surprised that he even knows here that he used to know in Trinidad.  Funny how after 40 years you still remember people and things about them.

And he's back

Been 2 years since I've been on LJ. But I was just thinking the other day that I tend to forget a lot of things, like specific past events and such so I decided that I would start doing some minor blogging again.

Sooo... skipping all the previous stuff that has happened but I refuse to blog about, here's an update on the current life of Alexander Anam
Age: 20
School: University of Waterloo
Program: Computer Engineering, 2B completed (barely haha)
Girlfriend: Sophia "Cow" Wong
Currently...
- On a work term at AMD (the daily breakage of balls)
- Reading through (comics) Watchmen and House of M
- Playing TF2 and DotA with some 3rd Strike occasionally

I think that sums up what I've been up to in the last few weeks.

Work
Work is extremely exhausting.  Not only do I work ridiculously hard, I don't think there exists another department which is as anti-social as mine.  I seldom hear laughter around these cubicles, and never hear greetings.  Nobody says good morning or good bye, which I find a bit strange.  No wonder everyone is so miserable in this department.

A funny thing happened today though, Matt Chan comes to my cubicle and the conversation goes
"ANAM!"
"Oh.. Hey Matt (ty for the heart attack)"
"Somebody stole my lunch! WTF!"
"HAHAHAHA"
"Yeah so.."
"NOnono wait.. HAHAHA... okay what?"
".. yeah so I left it in the freezer and someone took it!"
"Bet someone is eating it as we speak"
"...son of a..."

So glad that didn't happen to me. Lunch time is the 2nd best time of the day. best time of the day is when it's time to go home (obviously).

Games
I've been playing a solid amount of TF2 recently, specifically the Soldier class.  Burning and shooting enemies with bullets is fun too, but nothing is as satisfying as blowing up an enemy and watching their body parts fly everywhere. :)

I had the chance to try out SFIV, finally. It's actually exactly what I was expecting of it, after watching a few videos and such. Gameplay is extremely similar to the SF2 series and much less exciting than 3rd strike.  I'm not too big of a fan of it, not yet at least.

On another note, Sophia has officially stolen my animals. She has taken George the Manatee, Flying Cow the Cow Pillow thing, and Pete the Panda.  But I know she takes good care of them, so it's alright I guess.  I DID intentionally give her Pete indefinitely, but ahh.

Oh also, if anyone decides to comment please leave your first name with your comment because I have no idea who anyone is.

And lastly, I leave you with the most amazing performance ever.

Pineapple

(no subject)

Took the 6:30am bus to Finch station from Unionville
Street car took SO long. At every stop they had to clear tracks the tracks with a broom.
Super cold.
5 people showed up (including myself)
ate viet food for lunch
Left work 1 hour early.
Super busy on the way home.

But I happily sat by myself on the subway and Rubix Cube'd all the way home.

For the last 3 days I've had the SAME street car driver in the morning. That's sooo crazy. And I've seen the SAME guy on the street car for the last 3 days as well. We get off at the same stop too.

Yeah I have nothing else to do on my way to work.
